Arsenal need to start finding the net at home

Arsenal just need to start finding the net at home

Now the season has finished, a look at the statbunker stats will start to tell the various managers what they need to do to improve their position next season.  An interesting statistic is revealed in the goals scored by the Premier League teams.

First of all and maybe unsurprisingly, runners-up Liverpool finished as the league’s highest scorers with 77 goals.  However more surprising is the fact that 4th placed Arsenal scored as many goals as Champions Man United and the second most in the league with 68 goals.

The Gunners also scored the most goals away from home in the league with 37 – one more than Liverpool and 12 more than Man United.  This will be interesting reading to Arsene Wenger who will no doubt try to find a way of breaking teams down at the Emirates next season.

Despite being the league’s leading scorers, Liverpool were only the 3rd highest scorers in the first half of matches last season with 28 goals – four behind Chelsea and three fewer than Man United.

However they scored a whopping 49 goals in the second half of matches last season – eight more than the next most (Arsenal) and 12 more than Man United.

Clearly fitness is not a problem for Rafa Benitez’s side, he may well spend the pre-season planning on being less cautious from outset of matches next season.
